Partner Projects: Boston-Japan Medical Relief Initiative

The Boston-Japan Medical Relief Initiative (BJMRI) was formed immediately following the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011 in order to coordinate Boston-area physicians, hospitals, medical research centers, and other concerned parties to help address the ensuing medical crisis in Japan. BJMRI is a member of the Harvard for Japan Alliance under Medical Support.

BJMRI has dispatched Japanese health professionals in the Greater Boston to the afflicted Tohoku area. Fifteen health professionals in total visited 10 different disaster-afflicted areas in Japan and participated in disaster-relief activities: clinical examinations in local hospitals, evaluation of results from community-based surveys, and need assessment for residents in disaster shelters.
