We are a multi-disciplinary team of Harvard-affiliated researchers, designers, and medical professionals. Our mission is to help facilitate the recovery and rebuilding process along the Sanriku coast through empowering local residents and building community resilience.
We are a collaborative project with various Japanese universities whose priorities are continuously developing in dialogue with local communities. Cooperating with the local residents of Minamisanriku-chō, we have identified a number of areas where our collective resources can contribute to the recovery and redevelopment process. Our projects focus on providing tangible signs of progress through generating short-term economic opportunities and encouraging active stakeholder participation. An incremental recovery approach that stresses short-term solutions and visible signs of progress will improve community morale and increase faith in the recovery effort.
